Traumatic Brain Injury
A TBI is defined as an insult to the brain caused by an external, physical, and/or shear force.

Often involves head injuries that require careful assessment for potential TBIs.
Sports Injury
Athletic activities can lead to head trauma necessitating prompt evaluation for possible concussions.
Slip and Slide / Falls
Accidents causing falls can result in head injuries requiring immediate medical attention.
There are different levels of severity of TBI:
Mild
80% (Most patients in MVA)*
- Loss of consciousness (LOC) < 30 minutes
- Post-traumatic amnesia (PTA) < 1 hour
Moderate
10-13% of patients
- Loss of consciousness (LOC) 30 min - 24 hrs
- Post-traumatic amnesia (PTA) 1 - 24 hrs
Severe
7-10% of patients
- Loss of consciousness (LOC) > 24 hrs
- Post-traumatic amnesia (PTA) > 24 hrs
